pre sugar high

So, I got a note today from Elliotte's teacher today. She said that E had to have her card pulled twice today. Something about her not really giving it her full attention. I guess I should not tell her that the precious child was still up at 11:00 p.m. eating candy and watching Harry Potter(yes, at least it was a "clean" version of the movie). I am just going to blame it on her dad who said,"if they had not already missed school once this week, he would have let them stay home." I can't even comment on that one.

Good night and happy candy eating!

I wish I had taken an after photo of the ragamuffin group. It was a sight to behold. Peter had eaten something that made his entire mouth blue. I don't even want to know...well, what color will his poop be?

What a long, strange trip it's been...

This was the weekend that wouldn't quit! I worked Merry Marketplace Thursday and Friday mornings and got ready for Hope's fall fest in the afternoons. Friday night was Fall Fest and it was a huge success. The kids had so much fun!! We left early on Saturday for Stacy and Ken's wedding in Nashville. We stayed out way too late, danced way too hard and laughed too much. I am still tired! It was so great to be there to celebrate with such great friends that are going to be a super married couple! Congratulations to you crazy kids! By far, they had the best first dance I have ever seen!! It was Now that we found love by Heavy D. Maybe it will be on YOU Tube soon!

fall break is upon us

So, when I was in grade school, we had nothing known as fall break. We only had a spring break. They haven't even been in school that long. Even preschool has a fall break. I guess if I was teaching preschool, I would need a break, too. I hear about all these elaborate fall break trips like Disneyworld or the beach. We are taking the kids camping on the spring river with a few other families. I fear that I am going to need another fall break to recover from this one. Wish us luck.

when preschoolers rule the house...

so, when you have a bad headache and leave your children to their own devices, this is what happens. I had a headache late yesterday afternoon. I decided to lie down for a bit. I thought the kids were all watching a movie. Apparently, Peter was bored with that and decided to do a little body art. Luckily, it was washable markers. It does make for a funny pic and good laugh. Who doesn't need a good laugh now and then?

Male Morton Monkeys

I understand girls. I am a girl, or a "mam" as I shudder to be called. I am all for using good manners and all that, but it kills me when the teenage boys at school or church call me mam. I usually reserve that for the aged. I am not the aged! I digress..

I understand girls. Boys are a mystery that I don't think that I have figured out. My son refuses to use the potty. I just don't get it. Would you really prefer to walk around with urine wrapped around your bottom? There are lots of things about his daddy that I don't always understand. I won't even go there... it might send me into some crazy fit. I love those male Morton monkeys- I just don't always get them!!

The girls have really gotten into "Hairspray". We went to see the movie. Much more tame than the John Waters version. Now, they constantly want to listen to the soundtrack. I wonder if "Grease" drove my daddy crazy back in the day. I had the 8-track soundtrack and a portable player. I wore it out!! I am so getting paid back by "Hairspray" and the "High School Musicals". I never realized how patient my dad was. Thanks, Daddy!!

party like it's her birthday

So, today Nell had her "friend" birthday party. It was an art party- the kids decorated photo frames and also decorated a birthday cake. Thank goodness that there was also a real cake to cut and serve. It was such a great day. Two of my great small group friends, Emily Brown and Melissa Kelly, were in charge of the party. They have started a new business. It is called "The Whole Shebang!" Nell was their guinea pig. I am so impressed. they did such a great job. I am so excited for them and wish them the greatest of luck!

I think that today is the end of Nell's birthday whirlwind. I was so impressed with her. She asked that people bring donations to the Humane Society instead of bringing her a gift. Later in the week, we will take everything to the Humane Society. She is so excited about it. I have to say I am so proud of her selfless decision. I don't know that I would have done the same thing at her age.

Bad headaches for the last few days with little or no relief. It is about to make me go insane. It really brings me down and makes it hard to be a good mom and wife. I just pray that something will finally give. Ok, enough pity party.

must go to bed- church comes early tomorrow...

Happy Birthday, Nell!!!

So, she turned 8yrs old today. I can't believe it. So, all she has been wanting is a cat. Aslan has been gone for a year. She has accepted that he is probably no longer on this Earth. Today, we got a new Morton...a new kitty. She is a orange tabby kitten named Ginger. Peter has already doused the poor thing with cleaner. She is going to have to get tough or die. Happy Birthday, my sweet Nell!

likes some rat is gnawing on my spinal column

So, I have had this headache that put me down for a few days. It is really hard to be a good mom in that shape. Things getting better today. Don't know why really- maybe just the right combo of meds. I hate taking medication. I feel as though I have been asleep for a week, and now, I can't go to sleep to save my life. What a vicious circle.

N is getting excited about her birthday coming up. I can't believe that she will be eight years old. Wow, I feel old. She seems so grown up all of a sudden. We were going over some of her school work yesterday, and I was praising her for getting everything correct on her sheets. She quickly said,"I already did it last year." It was like, duh, Mom, of course I know what to do. I am so glad that she is having this attitude about it. It is almost comical. I know that we are going to hit that same brick wall that we did last year. I hope I am better prepared on how to deal with it.

Back to the birthday- so, Melissa and Emily are starting this birthday party business. You pay them and they do it all. Great idea...I have seen it done by some high-school girls. For teens, these girls did a fine job, but I know that my friends are going to do a great job. They both work with children's ministry at Hope, so they are around kids all the time. They are going to use N's party as a springboard for the business. It is great because it takes all the pressure off of me. Melisse has been kind enough to let us use her house since the house we are renting is neither big enough or nice at all. YUCK!!! N decided that instead of getting gifts from her friends, she wants everyone to donate to the Humane Society. She came up with that one all on her own. I am proud of her. I think that she is also using it as a reason for us to go to the Humane Society. She really wants a cat for her birthday. I think that I may have WM worn down enough to say yes to that one. We will see!!

Happy Labor Day weekend!

Wedding Bell Blues

It seems that every bride in Shelby Co. has decided to plan a wedding this week. I have yet another wedd. consultation today. My brides seem to be a little older and have a true vision of what they want before they talk to me. It is helpful. They are less indecisive. The budget is set and there is no playing around. It does help to be able to interpret what they really want.

It always amazes me what people will do for a wedding. It is as if all common sense goes out the window. The ice sculptures, the band or d.j, crazy party favors, cakes that would feed 600 people when only 200 are invited. The whole wedding planning community seems to be a racket. I liken it to a funeral. You are over a barrel and the vendors know that and don't really give you any break. I guess if I was of the same school of thought, I wouldn't have to stress about paying my kids tuition.

There is nothing like Memphis traffic. Apparently, a car hit a train down near Memphis State this morning. The train was stopped with the barriers down at Goodlet. People were going through the thing one at a time. P wanted to be near the train, but he also wanted to go really fast. I wonder how many times have cars (or people) have hit the train right there while trying to get to or from class. I know that I used to run across when I was in school. Now, I don't even like to stop close to the tracks for fear of the train jumping the track and hitting my car filled with my kiddos. Man, that makes me sound old and maw maw. When did that happen?

Maybe this afternoon, I will go out and be really reckless. I am going to let my gas light come on and drive around 240 a couple of times!!

Oh, Sweet Victory is mine!

I never really thought of myself as a technical failure, but it took me far too long to figure out the whole flickr to blogger thing today. It was almost as if what I was looking for kept disappearing right when I figured it out. As you can see now, I finally reigned victorious! I just hope that this will help me with keeping current pics and info about the family out there for you to see.

School was good again today for the girls. N is really feeling comfortable with her new class and finding herself a natural leader. It is hard to believe that she will be 8 yrs old in a couple of weeks. I haven't gotten any real info from E about school yet. She just floats right on in and makes herself at home.

Guilty pleasure...that show on Bravo called Flipping Out. The guy is so insane and OCD. It kills me. I can't stop watching it...kinda like a train wreck.

I had a wedding consultation today. Sweet girl and great colors and concept. I will enjoy working with her. I have another consultation on Monday for another wedding. I did a bridal show at the Hilton a couple of weeks ago. I will be curious as to how much business it really brings in. Two consultations so far...we will see. And then there is the "Lord of the Ring" elvish wedding that I have bid on. It is almost worth getting it just for the laughs of saying that I have done a LOTR wedding. It takes all kinds to make this world go 'round. I have done a wedding at the chapel at Graceland. Could it get any better?

Must go to bed...school comes early tomorrow!

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

First day of School round #2

So, yesterday, the girls started back to school. Round #2 in kindergarten and 1st grade. N had a great day and realized that she can be the "leader of the pack." E was just happy to be playing with kids...any kids. P was happy to be able to be at home without his sisters. He was able to watch age appropriate kid t.v. He wasn't forced to watch Hannah Montana or Drake and Josh. What a happy 3 year old. It is nice to be back in a routine...we were very lazy this summer-just too hot!

P will not potty train. I didn't have this problem with the girls. It is as if the toilet is going to jump up and bite his ding dong off. He starts back to preschool next week and his teacher has promised to help with that situation. We'll see...
